About Dickson

Gender:Male
Preferred Subjects:English and Writing, All subjects Kindergarten - 8th Grade, Social Studies, Algebra
Education:I graduated in May 2011 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an honors degree in English. I was awarded Highest Distinction for graduating with an overall GPA of 3.85, including a GPA of 3.95 within my major.
Experience:I am excited to start tutoring because it combines elements of the things I most enjoyed about the academic and athletic experiences I've had in my life.

As a student, I always enjoyed being the person friends came to when looking for help thinking about and writing papers. I loved the interactive element of helping them craft/edit everything from academic assignments to application essays for future endeavors. It was fun to see them reach new understandings of how to improve their writing.

As an athlete and coach, it was always a stimulating challenge to figure out how to get the best out of my teammates and players. Most recently, I coached a basketball team of 17 and 18 year-old boys. The aspect of the job I liked most was developing relationships with the kids that allowed me to get them all more confident and excited about playing the game.

In addition to private tutoring, I will also be doing some volunteer work through 826, a non-profit organization that teaches writing to under-resourced kids in DC. I'm interested in tutoring all age groups in most subjects. I have the most experience and expertise in writing, but I was a strong all-around student.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hobbies:I love reading, sports, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and being outside when the weather is nice. I'm super interested in people--the different ways in which we think, learn, and live--and enjoy learning more about the world around me.
