Experience
I am a tutor with a vast and expansive skill set in science and scientific research, specifically in the field of geophysics. Some of the subjects that I tutor include Calculus, Geometry, Physics, Earth Science, Algebra, Trigonometry, General Mathematics, and Statistics. I have over fifteen years of experience as an educator and tutor, teaching students from middle school, undergraduate students, as well as a lab instructor for Earth Science courses. My resume as an educator includes teaching at programs that help to prepare first generation college students to succeed in their course work, teaching undergrad Physics courses as a teaching assistant, and volunteering at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. My approach to tutoring is inquiry-based, allowing students to come to their own conclusion through questions and inquiry. This enables them to practically apply the lesson to their studies. I believe that being able to demonstrate how mathematical and scientific concepts apply to real world problems leaves a lasting experience with the student. I hold degrees from both Smith College and Columbia University, and am currently a geophysicist. I have had opportunities to sail on five different oceanographic research expeditions. When I am not tutoring/teaching, I enjoy spending time at local science fairs, volunteering at museums, and conversing about events that spark scientific curiosity.
