Experience
I have been teaching English language arts for 11 years, emphasizing on reading comprehension and writing. These plus literature and history are my core areas of focus because they create cohesive stories. Students can form their own opinions and skills with such knowledge and become informed for the rest of their lives. I have a "gradual release" style. First I set goals and practice skills with my students, moving forward until they can work independently. Other areas I tutor in include grammar, essay editing, AP U.S. history, AP U.S. government and politics, homework, social studies, and special education. My degree is in history from Pomona College and I have a master's degree in education which I earned at the University of Kentucky. Now living in Washington D.C., I look forward to every meeting I have so I can help every student achieve the goals they want and succeed in becoming more literate and knowledgeable. My expertise lies in the core subjects to enable this to occur in a tutoring session and well beyond that. In my spare time, I love to read, cook, and watch baseball and football. I'll also mash my hobbies together, such as creating a Super Bowl food spread.
