Education

I graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR with honors in Sociology/Anthropology and a minor in Environmental Studies. I recently completed a Fulbright grant and spent an academic year teaching English at a private university. Over the course of this experience, I interacted with over 600 students and professors, facilitating conversation clubs and grammar-based classes and assisting with academic translation projects. I am fluent in Spanish and have a beginning-intermediate level of Mandarin.

Experience

Enthusiastic about working alongside students in order to help them become more confident and excited about social studies, English, Spanish, reading, and writing, I have close to 10 years of experience as a tutor. I started a peer tutoring service in high school with a group of fellow students. As an undergraduate, I served as a tutor for the freshman writing and research seminar course and had weekly drop-in appointments for student athletes. In addition, I developed English curriculum for a local worker rights non-profit and participated in Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) an elementary school literacy program.

Hobbies

Although I work well with all ages of young people, I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring elementary school-aged children. In addition, I lead high schoolers on service trips to Latin America each summer and enjoy working with teenagers. I am passionate about helping youth connect class material to their own lives so that their studies are relevant and exciting.
