Experience

Hi everyone! I'm Ben. I have a Bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a Master’s degree in government and politics. In graduate school, I studied American politics. In 2013, I began tutoring undergraduates in history and political science. In 2015, I started teaching at the college level. In my capacity as a graduate student, I led weekly discussion sections. I graded and provided feedback for exams, term papers, and other assignments. For three semesters, I taught US Congress to upperclassmen. I've also taught political theory, pre-law, and introduction to American government courses. As a graduate student, I completed coursework on interest groups and social movements, congressional lobbying, campaign advertising, voter behavior, federal institutions, political theory (both modern and contemporary), and Congress itself. I love working with students. I thrive in scholastic settings. I find exposure to other perspectives intellectually stimulating. I enjoy formulating and articulating complex ideas. The challenge of reconciling seemingly-divergent viewpoints and disparate traditions is incredibly rewarding. Having worked as a grant writer for a non-profit organization — I have writing and editing experience. In that role, I was also responsible for revising proposals written by the other grant writers. In the past, I've also tutored undergraduates in writing and research. For the last year or so, I've worked in DC for a congressperson and a US senator. In that capacity, I represented legislative team members at policy briefings and hearings. I also conducted policy research and composed policy memos for legislative correspondents. I think you'll find that the breadth of my experience makes me useful in several different capacities. I want to help in any way that I can. Please feel to reach out at any time! Remember, there are no stupid questions!

Although I'm living and working in Washington DC, I'm from the Philadelphia area. Naturally, I'm a huge Philly sports fan. I enjoy reading books and listening to podcasts.
