Graduated with a Cultural Anthropology major from James Madison University (2013). I did not declare a minor, because I was taking too many foreign language classes! In academia I studied German, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian, among others outside of class.

Experience

1 year abroad teaching in Seoul, South Korea, at an elite English academy; 2.5 years experience of individual ESL tutoring/volunteering; 9 months of group ESL tutoring/volunteering; 6 months of individual college writing skills tutoring; 4 months of individual grade-school English and math tutoring. Each instance showed improvement in reading and writing skills, and competence. My main area of expertise is ESL (English as a Second Language). Throughout all my experiences, I have also become proficient as an editor, proofreader, and editor.

Hello! I'm an international English language teacher back in VA for a summer break. I've been around the world (literally) and I find meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures to be enriching and eye-opening. I'm an avid reader, film-watcher, and the occasional Netflix-binger. I miss my international community and hope to return to South Korea by winter '15. If you've ever been in a situation where you felt entirely clueless, then you can relate to people who have little or no knowledge of the English language. It is a struggle to function and thrive in any situation where communication is impossible, or nearly so. I work hard to open doors for those I work with, and I love every minute of it. Knowledge is power!
