Thom L.
Private tutor in Washington, DC
Education
I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. My days are spent as a consultant writing utilities in Python. I live in DC (NoMa) and work in Ballston. Update: For the time being all tutoring sessions will be remote via Hangouts/Skype/etc.
Experience
Computer programming has been a lifelong interest for me. I've been writing my own computer programs since I was 14 years old, received a Bachelor's in Computer Science in 2004, and spend most of my time in graduate school writing software to analyze human brain data (EEG). My Ph.D. specialty is Cognitive Psychology, centered on functional neuroscience research. Part of working as a researcher is crafting well-designed experiments and knowing how to interpret their results. Along the way I've picked up some math, statistics, and time-series analysis techniques. I've also done a lot of writing, especially technical and persuasive essays.
