Private tutor in Washington, DC
St. Mary's College of Maryland - BA, Biology
I live in Washington, D.C., and am currently a junior at St. Mary's College in Maryland, where I'm majoring in biology. I've been tutoring informally since 10th grade, when I was paid for my services in brownies! By the following year, however, I was tutoring geometry and chemistry in an official capacity. In my final year of high school, I designed and subsequently taught a class in beginning Latin for students in the 6th grade. By the time I started college, my free time was very limited, so online tutoring became the best option. I currently work as a teaching assistant in the organic chemistry laboratory. My duties include supervising students during the lab periods, making sure the labs run smoothly, answering students' questions, and assisting the professor in grading. I am a member of the college chemistry club, called SMACS (St. Mary's American Chemical Society). Through this club, I have set up weekly tutoring sessions in both general and organic chemistry. My grades are excellent and I feel confident about my understanding of the subjects I am taking and also teaching. Giving back to my students is a goal of mine. I am comfortable tutoring students from 6th grade through college, in person or online, and I customize my lessons for each student. In my spare time, I enjoy acting, German longsword, reading, and tabletop role playing games.
