Experience

I received my bachelor's in History from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), with Journalism and Middle Eastern Studies as my minors. As much as I loved these areas of study, I quickly discovered that my true calling was elementary phonics and literacy. For two years, I taught grades one and two in the District of Columbia. I have also worked as a tutor for second-graders on through high school juniors at a North Carolina tutoring organization. In addition to all fields of elementary education, I have experience tutoring American History, essay writing, and test prep. I believe everyone is capable of learning regardless of background. By listening to a student's own educational goals, I can better develop my style. My students end up engaged and successful, no matter their age or grade. Academics aside, I'm an avid reader, runner and baker. I love making delicious treats, especially those that contain dark chocolate.
