Alexa C.
Private tutor in Washington, DC
Education
Senior Ethnic Studies Major at the University of Hawaii at Manoa
Experience
Experienced TA for 5 professors, 3 different classes, over 7 semesters. I was asked to start TA'ing as a second semester freshman (not the norm) which is how I have been lucky enough to gain so much experience! I did a year of tutoring with kids at a local homeless shelter in Honolulu about 2-3 times a week. That experience was such a gift, and helped me grow as not just a tutor but a mentor. Recently completed an internship at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in the curatorial affairs office. I really enjoy teaching and helping a student achieve more than they thought they could. I have a diverse background of classes and experiences and would happy to be more specific in regards to an individuals interests with inquiry.

Hobbies
I was born and raised in New Jersey so I love pizza with a passion. Really all Italian food for that matter (no I'm not Italian, despite being 11 other ethnicities). I am part Hawaiian, which played a big role in deciding to go there for college. Obviously, I love the beach and outdoors so I like to try and bring that into a learning environment. I have decided to stay in DC after making a home here during my internship. I'm looking forward to getting back into Wildlife Rehabilitation, which I did in NJ, here in the city. I am also on a mission to go to as many ice cream joints as possible! I love all dessert but ice cream is my number 1. I am a very laid back, easy-going individual, happy/positive outlook and I don't care for negativity. I am a middle sister of three girls so I like to tease and use humor, especially with students. Having taught a wide range of students, I know that every student reaches limitations. I try to foster a student's other strengths in order to achieve their goals through creative means. In education today we too often ask our students to achieve a standard goal, and only give them tools to achieve it in one way. This means that every student will at some point struggle, and without the right guidance and attention at school the student might struggle for so long that they feel hopeless and incapable. If your son or daughter, or you, are feeling like the grades you want are out of your reach, or are in your reach but you just can't seem to get there, let's see if we can figure it out :)
