Experience

My name is Dayna, and I can hardly wait to work with you! Most recently, I am currently studying for a medical degree at Howard University. My two decades of experience with teaching makes me an excellent resource for you! For me, tutoring involves patience, mentorship, and leadership. It is my mission as a tutor to embody these qualities. A Little About Me: My career as an educator began while I was still in high school! As class valedictorian, I tutored struggling peers in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Advanced Mathematics. During college, I continued my path as an Elementary Program Coordinator for Safe Haven After School Program. There, I coordinated homework help, hip hop dance, cooking, and service learning projects for 40 youths. I had an amazing time at Save Haven, and I knew that I left there with a lifelong passion for educating others. Years later, I became a tutor for Howard Medicine's Preliminary Academic Reinforcement Program. For this six week summer intensive, I lectured Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology while leading tutoring sessions for a group of fifteen prospective medical and dental students. I also provided mentorship and advice on how to become a successful student. Taking leadership in this program allowed me to pass the torch, since I participated in this program just before my first year of medical school. More recently, I served as the Youth Science Enrichment Program Coordinator for the Student National Medical Association. Once a month, my team of medical students visited elementry school students to teach rudimentary anatomy and physiology. It was a blast to spark student’s interest in the human body! My Approach to Tutoring: Since I have always excelled in math, and I understand that a systematic and step-wise approach to solving problems is essential. Tip: Plan what you will do before you even pick up your pencil! If you're not sure where to begin, I can help! As a tutor, I am all about finding interactive and creative ways to learn difficult topics. I will keep you engaged and encouraged!
