Aug 2012 – June 2015: Teacher at Eastern Senior High School: - Earned a rating of Highly Effective three years in a row through IMPACT, the rigorous performance assessment system used by District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) - Led 100% of reading resource students to increase their reading level by at least one grade level each year and in school year 2014 – 2015 helped 66% of students increase their reading level by two years or more, some as many as four years - Employed ABA therapy, used social stories, led social skills/behavior lessons, and capitalized on teachable moments to guide incoming 9th graders with autism, most of whom had never been in a general education classroom, through the social and academic intricacies of being in high school classes with 20 – 30 non-disabled peers - Engaged various techniques such as individualized and small group instruction, station work, use of audio, visual, and graphic materials, hands on activities, and cooperative learning to promote active learning in inclusion classes of up to 35 students, including students with autism, specific learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and intellectual disabilities as well as their non-disabled peers.
