Private tutor in Washington, DC
Carleton College - BA, English
I am a tutor with extensive experience studying and teaching French and English. I obtained a bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis in French at Carleton College. During my undergraduate studies, I was able to gain experience teaching writing and critical thinking skills at the high school level. After I graduated, I had the opportunity to teach English at both the middle and high school levels in France. This experience also allowed me to improve my conversational French. I am comfortable tutoring students in a variety of subjects, including French writing, reading, literature, grammar and mechanics, American history, European history, social studies, English, and United States government and politics. As a tutor, I like to focus on helping students be able to analyze information on their own rather than concerning themselves about what is considered the correct answer. When students are able to think critically, they become more compassionate, aware, and enlightened. I place an emphasis on finding the best way for a student to learn and adapting the way I teach to fit that particular method. I also understand the value of making learning interesting and fun. In my free time, I like to dance, read novels, hike, travel, and eat ice cream.
